green guide,fuel savers

Many people don’t want to take the time to make their own cleaning products, for those people there are other options available that are still ‘green’ options. ‘Green’ products are becoming more and more popular as the general population is becoming more environmentally conscious.

There are some environmentally friendly cleaning solutions manufacturers that have been around for a long time, such as Bi-O-Kleen and Seventh Generation. But there are a lot of new products manufacturers up and coming. Eco Mist Solutions is a company that has recently appeared on the green front. They produce such items as grill cleaner, grout cleaner and grease cutting professional cleaners, Eco Mist also produces a decent carpet and upholstery cleaning spray.

Earth Friendly products has produced a phosphate free dish washing detergent that cleans better than the chemically permeated products and does so in an eco friendly way. Better Life has produced a citrus multipurpose cleaner that cleans up whatever you want to clean and leaves a nice mild scent.

Eco Store from New Zealand and Eco Discoveries are two more green eco friendly cleaning products some even geared towards being gentle enough to use in nurseries.

As you can see, there are many options open to those wanting to purchase their products rather than make them. These are only a few of the ‘green’ companies out there. There are constantly more coming onto the scene.

Unclog The Toilet Without Poisoning the Planet

green guide,fuel savers

You don’t need to release more and more toxins into the environment just to unclog your toilet, there are many different options you have rather than opting for the toxic solution.

Plungers work great to clear clogs in the toilet. They are a little messy but they are as environmentally green as you can get since you are pouring nothing down your toilet. Try this method first.

If the clog has just happened, attack it before it gets worse. If you catch it early on and it’s not a severe clog, you might be able to clear it by flushing the toilet and tapping the back of the bowl with your shoe, this creates a vibration and helps to dislodge the clog while the water runs through and washes it away. If this doesn’t work, you might catch a break by pouring a bucket of hot water down the drain. Pour as quickly as you can without splashing yourself with the hot water. If this doesn’t work, you might bring out the wonder substances, baking soda and vinegar. They have been known to be able break up a clog unless there is so much water in the bowl that they become too diluted to have any effect.

If none of these work, try mixing a bio-friendly dish washing detergent with boiling hot water and pour that down the toilet. These two will work together to lubricate, break up and run the clog down the pipe.

Make a Green Cleaning Kit

Most modern kitchens already have the cleaning products they need in order to create a clean, fresh, healthy environment for the family. But these products are not under your sink. They are in all likelihood in your pantry.

If you want to have a clean environment without doing damage to the earth that supports you, use a natural way of cleaning. The base elements to your cleaning solutions will be water, white distilled vinegar and baking soda. Additives to that would be eco friendly soap, tea tree oil and possibly glycerin.

If you want to scour your sink, don’t use soft scrub, use a damp sponge and baking soda, the effect will be the same without damage to the environment and you will save money. After washing, spray it down with distilled white vinegar to kill germs and give even more odor control.

White distilled vinegar and water will work fantastic washing your windows and you will be left with a streak free shine without the use of any harsh chemicals.

Add a little eco friendly dish soap to hot water and vinegar and wash your floors, countertops and any other surface that needs cleaning.

Rather than sprinkling store bought carpet fresheners on your carpet, try sprinkling a little baking soda. This will deodorize the carpet for less money and not fill your carpet with chemicals.

Green Lighting Solutions

Lighting our lives doesn’t have to have a negative impact on our environment. We can minimize our energy footprint significantly by changing how we light our homes.

Before we talk about the bulb, lets talk about the shade. If you use dark shades, they will absorb the light you’re producing. On the other hand, if you use a white shade, the light will reflect off of it and appear to produce more light. The more you can bounce the light around the more effective you will be at lighting your home with minimal power use. This includes how you paint and decorate your walls, keep them light so they reflect, allowing you to minimize the amount of light you need to produce. When you leave a room, turn the lights off, during the day, open the shades and let the sun light your home.  There are even energy saving air purifying light bulbs.

Now the bulbs, incandescent bulbs are the most energy hungry. They are being phased out in favor of greener solutions. Those greener solutions are compact florescent bulbs or CFLs, and light emitting diodes, LEDs. CFLs are the most common on the market at this time, they are energy efficient, cost efficient and they produce little heat which will make your air conditioning bill diminish. They are a good proposition any way you look at them. LEDs are even more efficient but are currently quite a bit more expensive. The price is steadily decreasing and when they come more into line with what consumers expect to pay, they are likely to overtake the CFLs.
