What Are Green Dry Cleaners?
The general public is becoming more and more conscious of the human effect on the earth. The effects that we are having every day and the cumulative effects showing up because of the daily practices we have had in the past. It’s becoming more and more popular to take your dry cleaning to ‘green’ dry cleaners. These dry cleaners have changed to new, environmentally friendly alternatives to the solvents used up until now to dry clean clothes.
The old way to clean clothes was with a solvent called perchloroethylene or perc. These solvents are harmful to the environment, being responsible for adding to smog issues, etc. The new cleaning techniques use GreenEarth or a highly pressurized liquid carbon dioxide. There appears to be little difference in cleaning ability between the three cleaning methods. Perc. leaves a slight chemical scent and can be somewhat harsher on the clothes than the other two methods. The system that appears to be easiest on clothes is the liquid carbon dioxide method the clothes don’t shrink and the colors tend to remain true.
Green is the way to go when dry cleaning your clothes, it’s good for them, it’s good for your wallet and it’s good for the environment.
