Frugal? Go Green to Save More Money

green guide,fuel savers

There are many ways that going green can bring a smile to even the most frugal person’s face. If you enjoy vegetables, the first thing you can do is grow your own. Not only will you pay less for your vegetables, you will also have control over what they are subjected to while still in the ground. Here, you will be able to not only keep unwanted chemicals out of your body, you can also help to keep them out of the Earth.

The next thing you can do is monitor your homes energy consumption programs and manipulate them in such a way as reduce your energy footprint. The easy things are; install a programmable thermostat (if you don’t already have one). Wash only full loads, both dishwasher and clothes washer. Open the windows, let the fresh air come in.

A large portion of your energy consumption can come from lighting. Replace all of your current incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. This will not only be better for the environment, it will also lighten the load on your wallet. If financially feasible, replace your old power hungry appliances with newer ‘energy star’ efficient appliances. One thing many people don’t know is that air conditioning effectiveness can be cut drastically by dirty filters, ducts, etc. Give your air conditioning system a tune up.

Take a clipboard and survey your home. Make notes as to what needs to be addressed immediately and what you can address in the future. You can make your wallet and the earth healthier with every improvement you do.
