A Guide To Energy Star Lighting

There is an emerging technology that will take the lighting industry by storm. This lighting will use over seventy-five percent less energy than incandescent lights. It will have approximately twenty two year service life based on three hours use per day. The warranty period will be approximately three years. (Yes, with a warranty you are right, this light is not cheap).  This technology is already available in recessed can lights, under the cabinet lights and porch lights. The lighting technology is actually part of the lighting fixture, there are no bulbs to replace. By the time this light decides to burn out you’ll probably be tired of the fixture and want to replace it anyway!

The nice thing about this type of lighting is that it is instantly on, there is no pause between flipping the switch and seeing the light. Think about how long it takes your brake light to go on when you press the brake. The instant on feature would mean added reaction time for the person following.

LED lights are unbelievably even cooler burning than fluorescents, a light that is known for burning cool. As this technology ages, it can only get better. More and more light fixtures will become available for different applications and as we continue to replace our old incandescent lights with these technological advancements, our environmental footprint will shrink as our energy demands diminish.
