Does Your Soap Contain Palm Oil?

green guide,fuel savers

Palm oil has evolved into a highly versatile commodity which is used not only in food, but also lubricants and cleaning products. As this product became more and more popular, the rain forests began to suffer more and more as oil palm farmers cleared the land to plant more and more oil palms. Rainforests are very sensitive biologically and anything that is done to the perimeter of the rainforest will affect it to the core. Everything is closely linked within the rainforest and palm farmers are increasingly doing irreparable damage in the name of cheap chemical cleaners.

Palm oil is one of the main ingredients in most soaps, including ‘organic, all natural’ soaps. Palm oil contains fatty acids and glycerin, two things that essential in soap manufacturing. Palm oil is known to have a skin softening and lubricating affect. There appears to be no doubt that palm oil is good for the skin, but at what cost do we use this product in our soaps.

As the realization of the damage occurring is becoming more wide spread, alternatives to palm oil are surfacing. Many companies are now advertising their lack of palm oil in their soap base. If you do a search online, you are sure to find commercial and boutique level soaps without it.
