Don’t Send You Old Monitor to The Dump: Recycle it

green guide,fuel savers

As the old desktop computers slowly become obsolete, more and more of the electronic dinosaurs are ending up in the dump. Many people no longer even make an attempt to sell them as they are too old to be useful and to new to be collectible. Our dumps are turning into electronic bone yards. Empty plastic cases now devoid of the screen stare yawning up to the sky, surrounded by a litter of glass, busted circuit boards and spaghetti tangles of multi colored wires. What was once prized, sought after and demanded large amounts of money to purchase is now a shattered testament to the throw away society of the human race.

Rather than just tossing your monitor into the garbage try recycling it. Depending on it’s age, some monitors can be repaired by non-profit organizations and reused. Many of the producers of the computers have their own recycling programs. If the company that created your monitor doesn’t have a recycling program, companies such as Best Buy, Circuit City (if there are any more of these still around), Office Max, Office Depot and Radio Shack, all have their own recycling programs.

If you’re interested in a green lifestyle, recycling old computer monitors is a must!
